NIGERIA: NNPP sends a serious message to Kano Governor Yusuf

• Some NNPP members in the 19 northern states have requested the resignation of Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
• The stakeholders, under the leadership of Honourable Attahiru Musa and their secretary, Simeon Pam, approved a vote of no confidence in the governor.
• They complained that the governor has not initiated any developmental projects to demonstrate leadership quality and good governance in the state.

Kano – Some New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) members in the 19 northern states have given Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state 48 hours to quit from his elected office.

This comes after stakeholders voted no confidence in the governor during an emergency meeting on Saturday, April 13.

Why NNPP wanted Governor Yusuf to resign

In a statement sighted by ZackGh.com on Monday, April 15, stakeholders said that Governor Yusuf had veered from the party’s objectives and was no longer following the blueprint of the NNPP’s development goals for the state’s people.

The group’s president, Attahiru Musa, and secretary, Simeon Pam, both claimed that Governor Yusuf has begun to use political vendetta and witch-hunting practices.

The communique reads in part:

“As stakeholders, we can no longer pretend that all is well when clearly, nothing is working. Kano State was supposed to be the model for the Federal Government to follow.”

What projects has Yusuf done as Kano governor?

The stakeholders lamented that Kano state was supposed to be the centre for good leadership and governance, which would have challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government. However, the reverse was the case.

They were concerned that the governor lacked ideology and that the NNPP had not presented a development strategy using the state as a model.

In other news,

Ahmed Musa, a former Nigerian striker, reportedly revealed why he did not shake hands with Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. At the same moment, he shook hands with the deputy governor.

The former Super Eagles captain noted that his actions were culturally influenced and expressed unhappiness with the many interpretations on social media.

Musa stated that bowing down for the elderly was the highest form of respect in the northern area where he came from.
