Speaking in their own tongue, Hausa, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has communicated his affection for those from the north in a very special and relevant way.
The Asantehene stated that since the establishment of the Ashanti Region, the Ashanti people had coexisted peacefully with various northern tribes during a durbar commemorating his 25 years on the throne.

“When we were young, whenever we broke our legs, we went to the Moshie chief to fix it,” he remarked, complimenting the many tribes in the nation. We all lived in harmony—the Hausas included. In our early years, we used to remark in Hausa, “everyone likes good things, for God’s sake.” I mention this because it is common knowledge that Ashantis are people-loving people.
The publication of a book about Otumfuo Sir Agyeman Prempeh II marked the beginning of the Asantehene’s anniversary festivities, which were then followed by a lavish food fair (Feast Ghana) in Manhyia.
However, the committee decided to forbid similar activity at future gatherings after noticing pockets of party paraphernalia among some celebrants.
The ‘Ahohor Durbar,’ or festival of the Asantehene, was celebrated on April 24. People from all over the world attended.
This took place on the eve of Awukudae, a major celebration in Asante culture.
What’s left is ‘Fireworks Night,’ which is set for Thursday, April 25, 2024. On Friday, April 26, the same date the Asantehene took the throne 25 years ago, Dwabrem will host a musical performance and a large nondenominational church service.
