The Uniland Festival’s organizer, Rich Focus, has addressed the controversy surrounding the event when it was shown in footage that Ghanaian artist Pappy Kojo was being forced off stage by several bouncers.

Recall that on December 30, during the final segment of the show, Papa Kojo started a commotion by threatening to cancel the show on Twitter.

He took hold of the DJ’s turntable and declared the performance was cancelled, claiming he owed the organizers money.

After being shoved off the stage by bouncers, he suffered an ankle injury and was subsequently transported to an ambulance.

He then received backlash for his actions on social media.

In a live Twitter Spaces interview with Kwadwo Sheldon, Rich Focus said that the issue arose when, in discussions with Sconti, Kwaw Kese’s representative, it was proposed that Papa Kojo perform at the function even though there had not been any funding allocated for him.

Rich Focus acknowledged that even though talks were not finished, Papa Kojo was included in the event’s promotional materials.

Rich Focus felt that Papa Kojo’s demand of 20,000 Ghana Cedis for his performance was too much, and this further compounded the misunderstanding.

We’re conversing with one of the men, then. That was Kwaw Kese’s man, Sconti. Rather than Papa Kojo, we preferred Kwaw Kese. We had to take that proposition into consideration when it was made. As a result, we creatively wrote everything on our end.

“So our social media guy had posted Kwaw Kese because it was him we wanted, and we had already sent his contract and everything before this. So for the next set of posts, I think Pappy Kojo was part of it. And then we had a call from Sconti that Pappy Kojo was requesting a sum of 20,000 Ghana Cedis to which we said, “No, we can’t do that,” he narrated.

The organizers made a counteroffer of GHC10,000 in an effort to turn the tide, but Papa Kojo turned them down.

When Papa Kojo asserted that he should have received the whole GHC20,000 because his image had been used in advertising materials, the issue became more heated.

“We all saw his post on Twitter that he would be going to storm there and everything. I even went to talk to Pappy. I asked him if he was ready to take the 10,000 so he could perform. If not, we can arrange for him and then we can compensate him on the social media post. He said he won’t perform, but he wants his money,” he said.

Explaining the reasons behind the physical altercation between Pappy Kojo and event security, Rich Focus, said he had reached out to security personnel for their account of the events.

Security claims that Pappy Kojo used profanity at the bouncer and made disparaging remarks about the bouncer’s family, which led to the artist’s forcible removal from the venue.

“So seeing that video after the event, I had to reach out to security to find out what happened, what happened. But according to their side of the story, they said Pappy Kojo was insulting the bouncer, insulting the mother and the family and all of that. So that was what pissed the guy off and he started dragging him out,” he said.
