Veteran broadcaster, Kwaku Sintim-Misa

Veteran comedian and broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa has criticized the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration for its determination on continuing with the building of Ghana’s National Cathedral.

In an interview on Thursday, March 7, 2024, on Starr FM, KSM expressed his confusion about the government’s desire to finish the cathedral at the same time as many Ghanaians are going hungry and are forced to lie on the bare floors of hospitals due to a lack of beds.

He disproved the claim that God would be more pleased when the National Cathedral was completed, saying that God would be more pleased when the hungry had food to eat and the sick had beds to lie on.

“The cathedral is so unnecessary with the capital ‘U’; so unnecessary. When Ghana has now been able to exploit its own gold and develop like Dubai… Johannesburg, then let’s go build some cathedral if you want. It’s a luxury thing.

“It is F-A-L-S-E, false. And this is the only thing I’m willing to debate any man of God on. That God will give you extra blessing because you’ve built the cathedral. No, God will bless you because you are now building hospitals to save mothers from lying on the floor when they are giving birth. That’s when God blesses you,” he said.

KSM added, “You know what I’m saying? God will bless you because you are now taking care of starving children who are going to sleep without food. That’s when God will bless you, but this whole notion of God will bless you because you have built a cathedral worth hundreds of millions of dollars… I’m sorry.”

The seasoned presenter added that those who assert that God would be pleased if the cathedral were built are treating God like a “petty god.”

He said that God is unconcerned with the locations of worship, as well as the day and hour of service.

“We have made God a petty god. Sadly, the God that we serve, or most people serve, is not the God I serve. The God I serve is not petty.”

Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, the secretary of the board of trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, has revealed that an additional $250 million is required to finish the cathedral.

He justified the cathedral project’s expense by pointing out that the America Bible Museum—a smaller structure than Ghana’s National Cathedral—was built for $600 million.
