Nigeria is grieving the death of actor Obumneme Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, who died in a boat accident at the age of 39 on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

The incident allegedly occurred when he was returning from a movie shoot near the Anam River in Anambra State. Junior Pope and three other people were killed when their boat capsized.

Just one day before the disaster, Pope posted a video on Instagram of himself in a boat crossing a river without a life jacket. He captioned the image, “The risk we take to entertain you; crossing River 9ja yesterday with no life jacket,” stressing the perils that performers confront on a regular basis.

The deceased’s corpse has been retrieved.

Pope was survived by his wife and three children.

The identity of the remaining three victims have yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, fans and colleagues have used social media to express their grief at the actor’s death.
