One of the most famous Nigerian actors in the field of comedy, John Okafor, well known as Mr. Ibu, has reportedly passed away. Unverified sources suggest that he did so at the Evercare hospital in Lagos. The reason of death is still unknown, and neither Mr. Ibu’s family nor his agents have spoken publicly on the situation to far.
Although there have been similar reports in the past, he passed away on Saturday, March 2, according to the Nairaland website. Since October 2023, the renowned actor has been battling health problems, requiring surgery that finally resulted in the loss of his leg. Nevertheless, in early January of this year, he got therapy and left the hospital.
Mr. Ibu, whose wife and three children survive him, was born in Nkanu West Lagos, Enugu State. He said that he had a near-death experience but that God had raised him from the dead in spite of the evil purpose of his adversaries in an interview published in May 2022 in the Nigerian Vanguard Newspaper.
Mr. Ibu claimed that those who opposed him were happy about his condition, presuming he wouldn’t live. Nonetheless, he thanked God for giving him another opportunity at life and said that his illness had given him an important lesson. He thought back to his bizarre experience while he was sick, when he said he saw people who had passed over on the other side.
