US groups offered money that could sort me out for life to drop anti-LGBTQ+ bill – Sam George

One of the brave and outspoken Ghanaian politician, Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, has disclosed he was offered a huge amount of monies to drop the anti-LQBTQ+ bill before parliament.

According to him, various groups in the United States of America made him an offer that could have sorted him for life, but he declined due to his principles.

“On this LGBTQ thing, if it was about making quick money, I could have been sorted out for life,” Sam George said. There were bids. I can show you messages from groups in San Francisco inviting me to a conversation about dropping the bill. If that was the case for me, I could have resolved it.

“On this LGBTQ thing, if it was about making quick money, I could have been sorted out for life. Offers were made. I can show you messages from groups in San Francisco inviting me and saying let’s have a conversation that I should drop the bill. If that was what it was about for me, I could have gotten it sorted out, but you must have principles,” citinewsroom quoted the MP in a report.

He went on to say that, people who opposed his fight against LGBTQ+ practises accused him of money laundering to the point where he couldn’t even change $10 anywhere in the world.

“I paid an exorbitant price.” I’m aware that I’ve been placed on some international watch lists. You travel and arrive at an international airport, where you are bombarded with funny questions. They accuse me of money laundering, and I can’t even exchange $10 anywhere in the world due to allegations that I’m funded by a shadowy organisation in the United States. I am not being paid. “I pay for everything out of my own pocket,”

On Monday, August 2, the bill titled ‘The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021’ was laid in the House and read for the first time.

This bill was one of the most talked-about in the country, with both local and international news outlets taking an interest in it.

While some Ghanaians supported the bill, others opposed it, claiming that its passage would violate the fundamental human rights of those involved in the act.

International news outlets such as the BBC and CNN spoke with Sam George in order to get answers and clarification on the proposed bill.

Following the receipt of over 100 memorandums, the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee in Parliament held a series of public hearings on the LGBTQ+ bill.

The committee held its fourth hearing with several stakeholders in March 2022.
