Chairman Wontumi booed during Ejisu by-election campaign

During the by-election campaign, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, the head of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region, was jeered in the Ejisu Constituency.

The NPP is largely likely to win the vote on April 30th, which was sparked by the death of MP John Kumah in early March.

When Wontumi tried to give a speech while accompanied by some party supporters during a campaign visit in Bonwire, he was met with jeers and boos from several members of the public.
In front of a store, a group of young guys booed Wontumi and chanted “away! away!” so that he could not speak to them. Later on, they can be heard screaming the name of a former member of parliament running as an independent.

Three independent candidates are vying to succeed the late MP, including the aforementioned contender Kwabena Owusu Aduomi. In the 2020 primary, Aduomi was defeated by Kumah for reelection, but he has since pledged to run as an independent and take back the seat.

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the nominee for the NPP, fills the remaining three spots on the voting paper with Beatrice Boakye (LPG), Esther Osei (CPP), and herself.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the principal opposition party, chose not to participate in the poll, saying that its focus will be on winning the general elections in 2024.
