Michael Addo reportedly resigns as SSNIT deputy Director-General
Michael Addo, the Deputy Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) in responsibility of Finance and Administration, has apparently resigned from his position.
Mr. Addo’s resignation follows the dismissal of SSNIT’s Director-General, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo as his replacement.
According to a Daily Guide report sighted by ZackGh.com on Ghanaweb, Mr Addo and Bosempem Osafo-Maafo, both Deputy Directors under Dr Tenkorang, had a strained relationship, prompting his decision to resign after the latter was promoted to the top position at the state-owned company.

Michael Addo is alleged to have resigned immediately after Dr. Ofor-Tenkorang, the outgoing Director-General, gave his remarks to the Board of the Trust on Friday, April 12, 2024, ahead of the President’s dismissal letter deadline of Monday, April 15.
On April 9, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo removed Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The president granted Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang until 15 April to give over to Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the Deputy Director-General for Investments.
The president also made many changes to the management of SSNIT.
The Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits, Pearl Nana Ama Darko, has been relocated to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as Commissioner for Support Services.
In response, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Juliana Kpedekpo as the new Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits.
Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo is anticipated to choose a new Deputy Director-General for Investment and Development in the near future.
The Executive Secretary’s letter to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, reporting the termination of Dr. Tenkorang’s appointment said that the outgoing Director-General will be paid three months’ pay in lieu of notice.
“To ensure a smooth transition, kindly hand over and cease to act as the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) no later than close of business on Monday, 15th April 2024. The President thanks you for your service to the nation and extends his best wishes,” the statement added.
Bosempen Osafo-Maafo is the son of Ghanaian political pioneer Nana Yaw Osafo-Maafo, who is now working as Senior Advisor to President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Yaw Osafo-Maafo was Senior Minister during President Akufo-Addo’s first term, from 2017 to 2020. He was also a Member of Parliament for Akim Oda from 1997 to 2009, and he has held several government positions.
