Ejisu by-election: Kwesi Nyantakyi makes a declaration seeking for consideration

Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi has asked Ghanaians to go past the Number 12 scandal, which culminated in FIFA banning him from football-related activities for bribery and corruption offences.

During a campaign event for the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary for the Ejisu by-election, the candidate stated that while the incident has become a part of his life, he is committed to transforming his community.

Nyantakyi, a former member of FIFA’s General Council, was found guilty after an investigative journalist caught him in a hotel room reportedly accepting a $65,000 bribe from a fictitious businessman intending to sponsor the Ghanaian football league.

He was also fined 500,000 Swiss francs ($498,000).

Nyantakyi was found guilty by the adjudicatory chamber of violating FIFA Code of Ethics Acts 19 (conflicts of interest), 21 (bribery and corruption), and 22 (commission).

He contends that, while everyone is imperfect and flawed, it is critical to go beyond our previous experiences and focus on the future.

Following the death of Dr. John Kumah, the private legal practitioner aims to become MP for Ejisu, with the goal of using his talents and experience to drive economic reform.

He said “my activities in the past, or my past life, are known to everybody. I can’t do anything. Nobody can do anything about it. So, we are all living with it. You must look beyond that and see the good things about the person. Nobody is perfect.”
