Exclusive: John Kumah did not die of poisoning; actual cause of death revealed

After a thorough examination, poisoning was ruled out as the cause of death for late Ejisu Member of Parliament John Ampontuah Kumah.

His cause of death was identified as multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, during the autopsy performed on Friday, March 8, 2024, by a licensed pathologist, according to reports.

Several reports following the Thursday, March 7, 2024, death of the Deputy Minister for Finance claimed that he had been poisoned.

The MP was receiving treatment for multiple myeloma when the illness was discovered in early 2023, according to a person close to the politician.

Following the MP’s death, family sources disclosed that he had returned from Germany earlier when his health worsened, ultimately resulting in his death.

A kind of cancer called multiple myeloma affects plasma cells, a subset of white blood cells that aid in the production of antibodies to combat infections.

Uncontrollably growing abnormal plasma cells in the bone marrow push away healthy blood cells in multiple myeloma. Weakened bones, anemia, renal damage, and immune system suppression may result from this.

The MP was reportedly receiving treatment for his ailment at the University Hospital of Erlangen in Germany, which at one point resulted in a fracture to his left arm, according to reports.

Reports state that among his diagnoses at the German Hospital were multiple myeloma, a displaced humerus shaft, and an extraarticular lateral clavicle fracture (right).

At the time of his passing, he had undergone four chemotherapy treatments, one of which he had requested to be done at the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.

The MP was supposed to begin active treatment in Germany on March 12, 2024, but he was released from the hospital against the doctor’s orders on March 6, 2024, in order to participate in the Independence Day festivities, instead of going back for the treatment.

The MP passed away midway through his transfer from Kumasi to Accra due to a decline in his health. It was anticipated that he would be sent back to Germany for medical care.

Meanwhile, the host of Onua FM’s morning program, Captain Smart, has been the target of a police complaint made by his wife, Apostle Lilian Kumah, who is rumored to be aware of the diagnosis from the German hospital.

Videos from a recent episode of Captain Smart’s show reappeared on social media shortly after the MP passed away.

The journalist claimed, among other things, that food poisoning had been directed against the MP and a few prominent members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said that a few weeks prior, the MP and Chairman Wontumi, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, were poisoned.

Asaaseradio.com reports that the late MP’s wife thinks the journalist’s assertion is baseless and harms the deceased’s and his family’s image.

The MP’s widow, according to GhanaWeb’s source, made her decision to ask Captain Smart for documentation and confirmation about her husband’s death because she was aware of his condition in the previous several months.
