CK Akonnor fired as Black Star Coach
The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council has terminated the contracts of Black Stars Head Coach Charles Koblah Akonnor kand his two assistants, effective immediately.
After receiving the technical assessment from the head coach and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee during the World Cup qualifiers between Ethiopia and South Africa, they reached this choice.
After reviewing the reports, the Executive Council decided to terminate the technical team’s contract.
Vice President Mark Addo, Chairman of the Upper East Regional Football Association, Alhaji Salifu Zida, and Dr. Randy Abbey have organized a three-member committee to choose a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours.
CK, who was appointed in January 2020, has overseen ten games for the Black Stars, winning only four of them.
He succeeded to qualify the Black Stars for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which would be held in Cameroon next year, in his brief tenure.
However, he got off to a shaky start in the global qualifiers, winning only a narrow victory over Ethiopia in Ghana and falling to South Africa.
In Group G, Ghana is presently tied with Ethiopia on points, while South Africa leads with four points.
