A new traditional bodyguard at the Manhyia Palace has been named.

According to adomonline.com, Nana Kwame Amo has been appointed as the new Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene, the Asantehene’s renowned traditional bodyguard.

Nana Kwame Amo, formerly known as Sledge Bonnah in private life, assumes this crucial role with a deep awareness of its cultural significance.

Within the Asante tradition, the Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene position, which dates back to the Asante kingdom’s founding, is extremely significant both culturally and symbolically.

According to the source, OtumfoŔ Opoku Ware II deliberately selected the Tromoo Akwasi rifle, which bears the name of the fabled trŔmo, as the basis for this venerated weapon.

The usage of abadayɛ, the foetus of trɔmo, for the ntoa of the Tromoo Akwasi gun is a distinguishing characteristic. It demonstrates the complex relationship between Asante customs and the spiritual importance ingrained in their regalia.

Gun-bearers carefully wield their weapons during ceremonial processions, exhibiting reverence and devotion to ceremonial etiquette, according to the research.

During the “trane” rite, the doku agyapʔmaa (gun) is discharged three times to symbolize a strong commitment to defend the kingdom. This is the occasion where a freshly enstooled monarch declares his preparedness to defend Asanteman.

The appointment of Nana Kwame Amo gives his ancestry more historical nuance. It is important to note that the late grandfather of the Asante people was not only the father of the Asantehene but also the older brother of Otumfuo’s father, a testament to the customs of the Asante people about succession.

Prior to taking up his position, Nana Kwame Amo performed the holy “som kahyire” ceremony in the hallowed “Akrafie so” at the Manhyia Palace.

The Asantehene personally performed this secret ceremony, according to the source, to teach Nana Kwame Amo about the responsibility and strong powers that come with wearing the Tromoo Akwasi regalia.
