Anthony Annan declares his stands in the Black Stars
Black Stars midfielder Anthony Annan has stated that he is still competing for his country.
The former player for Schalke 04 asserts that he has “stepped aside” to let the new generation in Ghana to prosper, not retired.
Now living in Germany, Annan said in a YouTube interview with Pipapipa Media that he hasn’t given up on football yet.
“I’m still Ghanaian and I’ve played for the Black Stars before. For now, some new players deserve the chance to play. We need to support them. I wouldn’t say I’ve retired but I have to step aside for the new players to have the opportunity,” he said.
“I have not retired yet. I just came to Germany and I will see about that. If I get the chance to play again, I will. And if I feel I should retire, I will,” he added.
Anthony Annan, 37, established himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders in national history during the years he was active, which was from 2007 to 2013.
He was a vital member of Ghana’s 2010 World Cup winning squad that finished second in the AFCON and quarterfinals in the World Cup.
He has made 67 appearances for the Black Stars in his six years of active duty with the national team, tallying two goals.
