All African Games: How ‘dumsor’ hit Cape Coast Stadium during Ethiopia vs Ghana clash

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, during a game between the Ghanaian Black Princesses and their Ethiopian counterparts, the Cape Coast Stadium lost electricity.

The All African Games stadium, where some of the events are being held, lost power for more than 20 minutes.

The power went out around 36 minutes into the game, according to sports writer Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo.

Thirty-six minutes into Ghana vs. Ethiopia, the lights inside the Cape Coast Sports Stadium have gone out. Almost twenty minutes later, the lights had still not returned. The waiting goes on! This is not right,” he wrote on X.

The writer said that just before halftime, the stadium had yet another power outage, which prompted the referee to stop the game even though power was eventually restored to allow play to resume.

“The referee abruptly called halftime with a few minutes remaining in extra time because the lights went out again at that moment.

He informed his followers, “But the lights are back on again, as the players emerge for the start of the second half.”

Just the infrastructure for the games, which are scheduled to take place between March 8, 2024, and March 23, 2024, cost the Ghanaian government $195 million.

The government has set aside an extra $48 million for games-related operating costs in addition to the infrastructural investment.

Critics have expressed worry, nonetheless, over the games’ shoddy organization.

The Ghanaians prevailed 1-0 over Ethiopia in the Black Princesses event.
