Real Betis won the Spanish Copa del Rey on Saturday, beating Valencia 5-4 on penalties in Seville after a thrilling final finished 1-1 after extra time.

Valencia’s Yunus Musah blazed over in the shoot-out, allowing Juan Miranda the chance to score the winning penalty at La Cartuja as Betis claimed the fourth major trophy in the club’s 115-year history.

The Sevilla based Club has won it first silver wear since winning the same trophy way back in 2005.

The trophy now guarantees Pelegrín’s Side a place in next season’s Europe league, regardless of where they finish when the Laliga season comes to an end.

Real Betis won the league title in 1935and the Copa del Reyin 1977, 2005and 2022. Given the club’s tumultuous history and many relegations, its motto is ¡Viva el Betis manque (aunque) pierda!(“Long live Betis even when they lose!”).
