The loss of cherished family members and loved ones has struck a number of well-known personalities in the entertainment business, inspiring an outpouring of condolences from both fans and coworkers.

Let’s look at a few Ghanaian celebrities that had family losses in 2023.

1. Ahuofe Patri

Actress Priscilla Opoku Agyeman, popularly known as Ahuofe Patri, broke the sad news of her mother’s death on January 30.

The bum shared the bad news on Instagram. “I know you are resting,” Patri wrote as a description for pictures of her gorgeous mother. However, I feel really alone.”

Fans and other celebrities were taken aback by the news and showered with condolences and warm offers of support.

2. SDK Dele

Comedian SDK broke the devastating news of his mother’s demise on Twitter on January 31.

Only a year after her late husband’s funeral did his mother, Rebecca Oppong, pass away. Oldgee, also known as Francis Sule, passed away at the age of 73.

“My sweet mother is gone… “May you rest in peace, Mama,” he said, bringing the family’s total losses in a year to two.

3. Fantana

The artist Fantana, whose real name is Francine Koffie and who lives in Accra, lamented her boyfriend’s untimely death on January 31.

She sent a lengthy message on her Instagram and Snapchat accounts, including footage of the two of them together and describing her pain.

Fantana identified him as Ayanle Husein, a young Muslim, and stressed their indissolubility in spite of their disparate religious beliefs. She said he was slain, but she wasn’t sure what caused him to pass away.

4. Kuami Eugene

Kuami Eugene, the composer of some of the year’s biggest hits, revealed the passing of two loved ones in 2023.

He announced the tragic news of his grandmother’s departure on social media on May 27.

Eugene had a special place in his heart for the 100-year-old matriarch, Obaapanyin Grace Adomah, and expressed his profound sadness at her passing.

“This is the first time of loosing someone really dear and close to my heart,” Eugene wrote in an emotional post, “and it’s not a pretty feeling at all.”

Eugene said that a Thanksgiving performance would be conducted on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in the Akyem Oda Public Park in the Eastern Region, in remembrance of his grandmother’s legacy.

Eugene asked for time away from social media for a few weeks in order to grieve in peace and quiet.

Soon after, Kami Eugene returned to share on social media the heartbreaking news of his father, Mr. Alex Marfo, passing away. Eugene grieved and honored his late father in a touching message that was shared on Instagram and Twitter.

Eugene shared a photo of Mr. Marfo and said he immediately missed his father and realized how important he was to him.

5. John Dumelo

Actor and politician John Dumelo, in a Facebook post on August 15, announced the passing of his mother, Mrs. Antoinette Ama Ampomah.

The late Mrs Ampomah Dumelo turned 71 in January 2023.

“My heart is broken. My dear mother passed away yesterday…my number one supporter. Heaven has gained an angel,” Dumelo wrote.

6. D-Black

Rapper and entrepreneur Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, better known as D-Black, also experienced the pain of losing a loved one in 2023.

On October 4, he shared the heartbreaking news of his brother’s passing on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

“Terrible day for me. Just lost one of my big brothers. 10 of us, 1 gone too soon,” he shared.

The news triggered an outpouring of condolences, and heartfelt sympathies flooded in from well-wishers and fans, offering their support and comfort during this difficult time.

7. Yaa Pono

Popular Ghanaian celebrities who lost their loved ones in 2023

In 2023, the well-renowned Ghanaian rapper Solomon Adu Antwi, better known by his stage as Yaa Pono, lost his father.

The “Obia Wo Ne Master” hitmaker and his family’s Christmas celebrations took an unexpected turn today, December 28, 2023, when he revealed the passing of his father, Mr. Adu Antwi, via an X (Formally twitter) tweet.

“It was really difficult to lose my dad on Christmas Day in Uptown.”Jah lead you on your travels, Mr. Adu Antwi,” he penned.

Even though 2023 has had its fair share of bad news, these Ghanaian celebs have handled loss with bravery and elegance.
