Liverpool reveal new Nike home jersey for 2021/22 season
Liverpool’s new home jersey consists of the traditional red jersey, red shorts and red socks and has taken inspiration from the 1964 season
Liverpool and Nike have unveiled the club’s new home kit for the 2021/22 season.
The Red’s new home kit consists of the traditional red jersey, red shorts and red socks and has taken inspiration from 1964 season, when Bill Shankly was in charge.
In 1964, Liverpool introduced a full flooded red jersey for the first time in the club’s history on the basis it would provide them with a psychological edge, with Shankly famously saying that ‘red is for danger and red is for power’.
Inspired directly by that decision, Nike have designed a kit for the club’s men’s and women’s team that includes bolted pinstripes and a bright crimson sleeve cuffs and neckline.
The kit is completed with a foosil-coloured swoosh and crest – a nod to jerseys of the 90s, and the green neck tape features a thread of stripes which are ever-present in the home collection.
“It’s lovely to see the perfect blend of our heritage and Nike’s jersey innovation for our home kit”, Virgil van Dijk said on the kit.
