GPRTU sends message to members on percentage to increase fares

Members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have been instructed not to raise transportation costs until a meeting has been called to determine the proper amount of increase.

Alhaji Imoro Inusah Abass, the GPRTU’s Director of Industrial Relations, stated that despite the rise in gasoline prices, the organization was not in a haste to implement the hike.

He insisted that they would need to get together to decide on a percentage if they were to raise rates.

He said that the meeting is set for the following week.

“The Transport Ministry is available to defend every choice that we make. Most of the time, when we sit down together, we quarrel about the choice we made. We need to address all of these concerns and place them in one basket because, although gasoline is the primary component, we also need to run on lubricant, spare parts, and verification of insurance fees.”

“With God’s blessing, I am confident that we will provide a solid proportion that our members will accept, and as such, the passengers shouldn’t hold anybody accountable. No one should raise the fares at this time, Mr. Abass continued.”

“So we plead with our membership or the entire professional drivers’ society to exercise patience so that we will look at the other side of the coin and come up with something better which will benefit all of us,” he added.”
