The Western Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Suleymana Ahmed Mozu, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which would criminalise homosexuality in Ghana.

He warned the president that these alien anti-social acts were detrimental to Ghana’s culture, customs, and traditions.

Sheikh Mozu said this while leading the Muslim faithful in the Eid prayer for 2024 at Azulenloanu to commemorate the successful conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan and the opening of a new independent Eid-al-Fitr Centre for Muslims at the Azulenloanu mosque.

Muslims in Azulenloanu have observed Jummah prayers for the past 50 years, but this has come to an end, and they must now join their counterparts in the District Mosque in Kamgbunli for Eid-al-Fitr.

Sheikh Mozu maintained that the Muslim community would never support LGBTQ+ activities because they were ‘unIslamic’ and inhumane.

The Regional Chief Imam questioned why nations like America prohibited males from+ practicing monogamy while putting pressure on other countries like Ghana to practise LGBTQ+, which is against their religion and culture.

Sheikh Mozu predicted that the human species will become extinct as opposite-sex marriage and childbearing would cease.

He stated that the Muslim community prayed diligently for President Akufo-Addo to sign the LGBTQ+ bill into law during the holy month of Ramadan.

Sheikh Suleymana Ahmed Mozu stated that not all human rights, including the freedom to practise LGBTQ, must be protected.

He requested that the Muslim Community pray for President Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Mahmoud Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Mr Kwasi Bonzoh, in order for peace and serenity to reign in the nation.

He recommended Muslims in Zongo communities to avoid ‘unIslamic’ attitudes such as adultery, wee smoking, homosexuality, lesbianism, stealing, and other immoral behaviours.

Sheikh Mozu asked them to pray for forgiveness and reconciliation before entering Heaven.

To this purpose, Muslims must provide alms to the poor and needy in society.

He described Islam as a precious faith and urged Muslims to live in purity and refrain from activities that do not exalt and edify Islam.

Regarding the impending general elections, Sheikh Mozu advised Ghana’s Electoral Commission to maintain a level playing field for all parties as another test of the country’s democracy.

He hoped that Azulenloanu would develop to be Ghana’s Mecca, and he implored Allah to benefit the inhabitants of the town.

The Chief Imam of Azulenloanu, Zakaria Ahmed, implored them to band together and live in peace and harmony in the community.
