Former President Kufuor hails Asantehene; 2016 election could have been messy Otumfuor intervened
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor hailed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his significant contributions to Ghana’s development, notably in sustaining the country’s stability.
In an Opemsuo Radio interview broadcast on X on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, former President Kufuor praised the Asantehene as a wise man revered by all people regardless of political affiliation.

He said that because of Otumfuo’s knowledge, actors in Ghana’s political scene listened to him, which spared the country from turmoil, particularly during the 2016 general elections.
The former president described how the Ashanti Kingdom’s ruler intervened to prevent impending political bloodshed.
“The 2012 or 2016 election almost turned messy at a point. But the Otumfuo intervened and all the factions in the elections accepted the results presented by the Electoral Commission.
“If not for that things were getting very difficult,” he said in the Twi dialect.
