Farmers explain the reason why farming is no more attractive to the youths
Ghanaian farmers have expressed their profound dissatisfaction with the president’s decision to boost cocoa prices to just 2,000 Ghana cedis, rather than the more reasonable 5,000–6,000 Ghana cedis. It, in their opinion, is the primary obstacle preventing young people from showing interest in a career in farming.
This was disclosed by the farmers in a Boss News interview.
They said “The price is extremely awful, at least we wouldn’t have any issues with him giving us the minimum amount of what we have expected” .

They continued, saying, “The government is a liar who despises farmers and wants us to fail. Therefore, it is unappealing for the young people to even consider farming as a career to fit in. Because of this, the age range in the farming industry is limited to the 70s and 80s.”
“Our first objective is for the president to display some initials that, when hearing the price, will entice young people to become farmers. It will release them from the collection and sale (galamsey) they have engaged in.” They said it once more.
They ultimately concluded that “People should stop seeing the 2 thousand Ghana cedis as any huge amount of money, because;10years back when one was to cultivate 20 bags of cocoa, nowadays not even 10 bags is possible to be cultivated annually, which leads to the depreciation of the cocoa farming and sympathetic state of the farmers.”
