Chairman Wontumi discloses what reallly affected Kwesi Nyantakyi’s votes in the NPP Ejisu primary

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, claims that the illness of former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwasi Nyantakyi, impacted his performance in the Ejisu NPP primary.

Wontumi thinks Nyantakyi, who received just 35 votes in the election, might have done better if he had been fit full-time and campaigned continuously.

In an interview with Adom FM on April 15, 2024, Chairman Wontumi ascribed Nyantakyi’s reduced campaign activities to health concerns.

“In every election, you should be able to monitor and follow keenly to win, but that did not happen for Nyantakyi. He was critically ill at the last minute and couldn’t campaign as he should have but he has done well and I’m not surprised,” myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said.

The primary, conducted on Saturday, April 13, had 1081 delegates and nine hopefuls contending for parliamentary seats. Nyantakyi received only 35 votes.

Kwabena Boateng, the Ejisu Constituency’s second Vice Chairman, won with an outstanding 394 votes.

The parliamentary primary was held following the death of John Kumah, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu. With the primary completed, the Electoral Commission (EC) will hold a by-election on April 30 to decide Kumah’s replacement.
