Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, better known by his stage name Amerado, was born in Kumasi, Ghana, on February 14, 1995. Yeete Nsem, Ghana’s first newscasting rap series, is created by him.
Childhood and Education
Derrick Kantanka was raised in the Ashanti Region of Ghana in the town of Ejisu, Kumasi. He was a KNUST Senior High School.
Amerado was signed to the record company MicBurnerz Music by music producer, sound engineer, and A&R Azee Ntwene after coming third at the Solid FM Freestyle Show in 2015.
Amerado appeared on a song by Mix Master Garzy that was written to encourage peace in the run-up to the 2016 general election in Ghana.
Amerado launched his first single I AM the following year, and in January 2017 Pulse Ghana listed it as one of the top 10 Ghanaian songs.
That November, he released his debut EP, Rapmare. Amerado appeared on Sarkodie’s hip-hop song “Biibi Ba” in 2018, which was nominated for the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Best Hiphop Song.
On August 8, 2019, Ghanaian DJ Black published a contentious list of the top 50 rappers in the nation, and Amerado was ranked forty-first. [importance?] Amerado was hailed as one of the greatest rappers to have ever come out of Ghana by Reggie Rockstone on October 1, 2020, a significant figure in the hiplife music genre in Ghana.
Amerado released Ahodwo Las Vegas in 2020 in Kumasi with Shatta Wale and other rappers. Amerado and Tim Westwood conducted a freestyle and interview together on London’s Capital Xtra in August 2021. His freestyle performance was highlighted by GRM Daily as one of the best on the show.
Patience, Amerado’s second extended play, was released on October 26, 2021. It was produced by Azee Ntwene, Izjoe Beatz, Samsney, and ItzCJ Madeit and featured Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, Fameye, YPee, and Kweku Flick.
On the music streaming services Apple Music, Audiomack, Boomplay, and YouTube, the EP reached its highest point at No. 1. The BEST EP award at the 2022 3Music Awards was given to the EP. Amerado is the first performer from Kumasi to receive the 3Music Awards’ Rapper of the Year honor. Amerado was included in Audiomack’s Top 10 African Artists to Watch list, which also included A-Reece, Nandy, Joey B, and others, in May 2020.
Style
Amerado raps and sings primarily in the Twi dialect of the Ghanaian Akan language, though he also employs English on occasion. Amerado, his stage name, which he adopted to demonstrate his control over the music industry means “Governor” in Akan.
Brand ambassador
The Ghana Cocoa Board’s endeavor to promote chocolates made in Ghana is represented by Amerado. In order to advance the cause, he composed the song “Ghana Chocolate.” Additionally, he has collaborated with businesses like Vodafone Ghana, AirtelTigo, HD Plus, GoTV, and Cheezzy Pizza.
