World Cup 2022: Angry Nigerian fans storm pitch after they failed to qualified to Qatar
Nigeria supporters stormed the pitch at the Abuja National Stadium after a 1-1 draw at home to Ghana meant they will not take part at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
Nigeria fans clashed violently with police while storming the pitch after their World Cup hopes were ended with a 1-1 draw at home to Ghana on Tuesday night.
Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey opened the scoring on the 10 minutes for the visitors before William Troost-Ekong equalised for the Super Eagles from the penalty spot on the 22nd minutes in the first half.
The hosts were the dominant side in Abuja but could not find the all-important winner after the interval, condemning them to defeat by the away goals rule.
And that triggered shocking scenes at the National Stadium in Abuja as over thousands Nigerian die-heart fans invaded the pitch and tore seats.
