Vladimir Putin-War: Social Media giant, TikTok has stopped operating in Russia

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a number of corporations have suspended operations in the nation in protest of the atrocities, which have killed, injured, and displaced almost a million people. As a protest against President Vladimir Putin and his regime, TikTok has joined several other online business and banking transaction organizations and social media platforms, including Paypal, American Express, and others, in banning Russia from using their services. On Sunday, TikTok shut down all live streaming and content sharing in Russia. The announcement comes in response to Russia’s new ‘fake news’ law, which threatens jail time for publishing ‘false’ content. When the bill was passed, several media organizations withdrew their services from Russia. The platform is not the first to halt operations in Russia as a result of the country’s invasion of Ukraine. On Sunday, Netflix announced that its service in Russia would be suspended. In addition, American Express stopped operating in Russia and Belarus. According to Sky News, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is removing its Russian subsidiary from its global network. Social media giant TikTok, which is part of the larger Chinese tech company ByteDance, stated that the safety of the app’s employees and users is its highest priority. The company is currently one of the most popular video-sharing and money-making social media platforms used by public figures, celebrities, businesses, and the general public on a daily basis, and it operates globally. Meanwhile, Russia has launched 600 missiles so far in the attack against Ukraine and has killed several people including women, children and the elderly which has been can a cause for alarm for the whole world. For safety, millions of Ukrainian civilians, including foreigners, have fled to neighboring countries with their families.
