The formidable Assin State College: a squad to look out for in NSMQ 2020

Assin State College is fast becoming one of the NSMQ favourites owing to their recent outstanding performance in the NSMQ. The team has so far upstaged NSMQ bigwigs like Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS and Ghana National College.

More interesting is the fact that the contestants, Sandra Osei, Nemaku Johnson and Hiamey Kwame Nelson, were all in their second year when they represented their school in 2019. Unfortunately, their journey was shortened by Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School at the Preliminary Stage of the 2019 edition of the National Championship.

Assin State College, represented by the same team from 2019, came back in 2020 stronger to beat Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS at the Regional Qualifiers. They subsequently beat Ghana National College at the Preliminary Stage of the National Championship.

The first round of the contest ended with Assin State College in last position. In the second round, however, Assin State College turned the tables by answering most of the Speed Race questions correctly.

Sandra Osei, considered as Assin State’s super-sub, coming on during the fourth round.
What did it for them was the fourth round, where Sandra Osei came on board, and together with Nemaku Johnson, answered all their True/False statements correctly; a repetition of what they did in their contest against Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School in 2019.

Assin State crowned their performance by answering three out of four riddles correctly in the final round of the competition, winning the GOIL Riddle Bonanza award, worth GH¢800.00 at the Preliminary Stage.
We wish Assin State College the very best as they prepare for the One-eighth Stage. Take a look at the breakdown of the contest:
