Spotted at number 48 makes Michael Owusu Addo, the  ‘Sub Zero’ rapper one of the few African artistes to have joined list on the chart which ranks the most active musical artistes on the world’s leading social networking services.

Bill Werde, the former editorial director of Billboard, called the Social 50 “yet another step” in the evolution of the magazine and “important response to our changing times.”

It was launched on December 11, 2010, and had Rihanna as the first artiste to reach number one. She has spent a total of 21 weeks at the top of the chart.

BTS hold the record for the most weeks at number one, with 174. Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber follows with 163 weeks at number one.

On October 2016, the South Korean boy band  BTS landed the number one spot on the Social 50 chart, becoming the second K-Pop act, after Psy, to reach first place on the chart.

Before  American singer Jenni Rivera passes away in December 2012, she became the first and only artiste to top the chart posthumously. Since its launch, 20 artistes have reached the top spot on the Billboard Social 50.

Those who didn’t long on the chart’s list are the these three artistes—Rivera, Skrillex and  Justin Timberlake — they only reached the spot for a single week.
