RockCity (The Typical Bongo Boys) Shares Some Difficult Moments In Their Music Journey

In October last 2 years (2018), we (Rockcity) had worked painstakingly to get a slot on Joy Prime TV for an interview on the programme “Hot Picks”.

We travelled all the way to Accra, turned up at the studio on time. When it was time for us to be on set with the host Mercury Quaye, a mysterious technical hitch occurred, our videos could not be played, neither could we be interviewed live.

We had to manage with a recorded interview, which we were promised would be aired a week after.
We had to take the unpleasant step of having to apologize to our fans, some of whom had been glued to their sets hours to the programme.

Some of our haters who had been praying for a misfortune called us liars, saying we just wanted hype but in actuality, we weren’t scheduled for any interview whatsoever, even after we had posted pictures of us with the host on the “Hot Picks”

Some were not as diplomatic, and literally rained all sorts of insults on our brand. We swallowed the bitter pill.

Almost a year later (September 2019), we were back in Accra. This time around not just for an interview at Joy Prime only, we were then promoting a music video (which featured a well known artiste Articlewan) that had recorded 2k plus views in 24 hours of being uploaded on YouTube.

This time we went live with the same Mercury Quaye on Joy Prime, then we were also on Joy News with Becky (Let’s Talk Entertainment) and then also on GHOne with Regina Van Helvet (Rhythmz).

Two of these interviews were aired throughout the week alongside airplay of our video, which was also played on OneHD TV for the next one month. In that same week, we were on Four Radio stations in the capital (Accra fm, Yfm, Happy fm and 3fm)

Now we know some of you may be thinking this doesn’t mean much, knowing the terrain for the big artistes out there, but looking at where we are from and our experience from the year before, this was a milestone.

Also because, most of our colleagues who get similar opportunities usually manage just one or two interviews and return.

Our point is,if you are convinced that what you are doing is your passion and what makes you happy, so long as it’s legal, push with all your might.

Ignore people who say it’s not possible. It may take a while but if you push harder and pray, and avoid shortcuts, the results will amaze even you. The journey remains forward. Let’s win together.
