Just before 23:00 CET, news broke of one of the most surprising signings of the La Liga transfer window. Real Sociedad have signed David Silva until 2022.
The 34 year-old moves to the Basque club on a free as his contract at Man City had finished. Earlier in the day, the player said goodbye to fans on social media and it was announced that there would be a statue of the Spaniard at the Etihad Stadium.
Real Sociedad have got themselves a top quality player who has plenty of experience at top clubs and for the national team. He will help ease the loss of Martin Odegaard whose loan spell was ended early by Real Madrid.
Real Madrid unexpectedly calling back the Norwegian early meant a midfielder was needed and Silva has quality, talent and plenty of assists and goals to his name. It is great news for Real Sociedad supporters.
In his ten seasons in the Premier League, Silva scored 77 goals and got 116 assists in the 691 matches he played for Man City. He was at Valencia, Eibar and Celta Vigo before that.
