Nigerian police reportedly kills a man said to be innocent mistaken for an armed robber triggering #JusticeforAbiola #EndSars #EndPoliceBrutality hashtags and many other
Since Friday, there have been massive protests in Osogbo, Nigeria, after police allegedly gunned down a man in his late twenties in Osun state.

Acccording to reports gathered, the young man, identified as Abiola Afolabi, was shot in the leg at a friend’s house on Sunday and died in police custody, prompting protesters to take to the streets of Osogbo to demand justice for young man they said is innocent. Several online sympathizers are also protesting on social media with hashtags such as #JusticeforAbiola #EndSars #EndPoliceBrutality.
The civil society groups in Osun have expressed their outrage at the ongoing extrajudicial killings by police. Civil society organisations demand that the detained friend of Moshood Abiola who was shot and killed be allowed to consult with a lawyer.
Now, the police has released a statement that Abiola is dead and alleged that Abiola, Matthew, and Matthew’s fiancée were caught at the scene of a robbery, leading to Abiola getting shot.
Osun police command said officers responded to a call from a woman about suspected criminals on March 29. Osun police said suspected criminals and hoodlums were holding meetings in the area. The suspected criminals opened fire on the police which the officers responded accordingly. One of the suspected criminals was injured, and two others were apprehended. Osun police have issued a warning to anyone planning a protest against the killings.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that the man was innocent and had nothing to do with the robbery that the police mentioned. The death of the man has sparked outrage among many Nigerians, and there is a heartbreaking video of the young man’s mother fleeing her state to the state where the incident occurred in search of her child, for whom she appears to have no knowledge of his death.
But people are asking questions, like why Matthew’s fiancée was released if indeed they were caught robbing.
Meanwhile, some youths have taken to the Ola-Iya axis of Osogbo, Osun State, to protest the killing of one 27-year-old Abiola.
Family members of Abiola were filmed crying, asking for answers about the killing of the 27-year-old man.
Abiola’s brother is said to be suicidal and has posted several suicide-related WhatsApp statuses.
