Apple held a press event yesterday, 7th September 2022 to unveil the iPhone 14 which has a sharp aluminium edges, rounded corners, a glass back, the familiar notch at the top of the device, and a Lightning port, the new phone is inspired by the iPhone 13.

The most significant change in the lineup is that the iPhone 13 mini will not be updated. Instead, the iPhone 14 will be available in two sizes: the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus. They both have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. There is no new device for you if you like small phones. However, if you want a large iPhone without purchasing a Pro model, the iPhone 14 Plus is the way to go.

“iPhone 14 also has an updated internal design that improves thermal performance,” VP of iPhone Product Marketing Kaiann Drance said. For instance, you can play games for longer sessions.

For the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, Apple employs the A15 Bionic system on a chip. It’s the same system on a chip found in the iPhone 13 series.

On the device’s back is a new main camera with a larger sensor and a faster aperture (f/1.5). It has optical image stabilization with sensor shift. Apple claims a 49% improvement in low-light performance.

A new TrueDepth camera with a faster f/1.9 aperture is on the front. For the first time, the selfie camera has autofocus, which should aid in keeping faces sharp.

The iPhone 14 places a premium on its camera. According to Apple, the image processing algorithm has been improved, with deep fusion occurring earlier in the pipeline. There is a new advanced stabilization mode for video. It’s called action mode, and it uses the entire sensor to stabilize video without the use of any additional hardware — no gimbal required.

Apple is discontinuing the SIM tray in the United States. Customers will instead have to switch to eSIM. Apple specifically stated that this is a change for customers in the United States; international iPhone models should still include a SIM tray.

The iPhone 14, like the Apple Watch Series 8, has new sensors that can detect a car crash. It can assist you in contacting emergency services more quickly. And even if you’re in the middle of nowhere with no Wi-Fi or cell service, the iPhone can still help you with an emergency SOS via satellite. You can send a message to emergency services as long as you’re outside and have a clear view of the sky.

On your phone, you can see where satellites are and how to point it at them. Once connected, you need to send and receive enough information to get help. Apple has created a custom, short-text compression algorithm. It can take from 15 seconds to a few minutes to send a message. You can also select standard answers from a list of preconfigured messages to speed up the conversation.

Even if you are not in need of assistance, you can use this satellite-powered feature to update your location in the Find My app. It can be useful on a long hike, for example.

The iPhone 14 costs $799, while the iPhone 14 Plus costs $899. Preorders will begin on September 9. The iPhone 14 will be available on September 16, and the iPhone 14 Plus on October 7.
