The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has delivered a strong warning to Municipal and District Chief Executives (MCEs) in the region, accusing several of them of laxity and underperformance.

Speaking at the “Time with the Media” engagement organized by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Hon. Ocloo expressed deep dissatisfaction with the conduct of some MCEs.

“Too many of you are simply failing in your responsibilities,” she declared. “You enjoy the privileges of your positions yet produce no tangible results. This will no longer be tolerated.”

She stressed that sanitation, street lighting, and environmental management must be prioritized. The Minister disclosed that 3,000 new streetlights have been secured through the Ministry of Energy and distributed to all assemblies. However, she warned that no delays would be accepted.

“You have two weeks to ensure every light is installed. I will personally supervise this. If you cannot handle this basic responsibility, then you have no justification for staying in office,” she cautioned.

On sanitation, Hon. Ocloo reminded the MCEs that keeping communities clean is their core duty, not an option. She further cautioned against environmental degradation, particularly the illegal encroachment on Ramsar sites and lagoons, affirming that demolition exercises would continue firmly and fairly.

According to her, the performance of all MCEs will henceforth be assessed strictly based on three indicators — sanitation, street lighting, and environmental management.

“The people of this region are tired of rhetoric. They demand action and results — and they deserve them now,” she concluded.
