A young man in his 30’s killed by lion at Accra Zoo

A young man in his early thirties was killed by a lion after scaling a fence into the wild animal’s cage at the Accra Zoo.

According to the Forestry Commission, the young man who was tagged as an intruder and allegedly jumped into the lion nook at the Accra Zoo on Sunday evening and was pursued by a lion has died.

He died after sustaining several wounds, and his body was taken to the morgue after he died.

Around early afternoon, security discovered his lifeless body.

According to John Allotey, Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, under whose authority the Accra Zoo falls, authorities on a standard watch saw a moderately aged man (an interloper) hopped the security fences and entered the Zoo’s lions nook around 12 p.m. on Sunday (August 28, 2022).

One of the lions pursued and injured the intruder inside the enclosure’s internal fencing. The administration was credited with successfully luring the lions into a safe area and allowing the Achimota Police to move the body and begin an investigation.

“We need to reaffirm that the lion, lioness, and two little guys are still safely encased in the Accra Zoo.”

Because no lion has escaped from the Accra Zoo, the Forestry Commission must console people.

On Sunday, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Benitor Owusu Bio, and the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, John Allotey, visited the Zoo to ensure that all offices were secure.
